For a private client in Christmas Common we delivered a complete small power, lighting, and network solution that elevates a modern open plan country home while respecting its traditional character. Starting from the architectural plans, we developed a room by room electrical design that refined outlet positions, circuiting and containment to suit furniture layouts and daily routines. Small power was detailed for discretion and durability, with dedicated supplies for appliances and AV, soft start protection where required, and surge protection at the head end. Socket and switch finishes were selected to complement the ironmongery, with hidden floor outlets and neatly integrated charging to keep surfaces uncluttered. Distribution was rationalised to keep loads balanced and future ready, and all cabling routes were co ordinated with joinery so that technology serves the space rather than competing with it.
Lighting was treated as a core design element. We specified high colour rendering fittings, tight beam control and low glare optics to create comfortable layers of light from morning task to evening ambience. Discreet downlights provide working light without hotspots, linear details are concealed within cornices and shelves for a gentle ceiling glow, and wall washing softens masonry and panelling. Statement pendants in the kitchen and dining areas were balanced with precise dimming so they read as warm focal points, while bathrooms and dressing areas benefit from accurate mirror lighting and low level night scenes that guide movement without disturbing sleep. Exterior paths and terraces are lit with a warm palette that preserves the rural setting and gives a welcoming approach after dark.
To support contemporary living we installed a hard wired, enterprise grade network with a central rack, managed switches and structured cabling to every key location. Ceiling mounted access points provide seamless whole house WiFi with fast roaming, and a separate guest network keeps family devices secure. Coverage extends to terraces and the garden for streaming and control outdoors, while the core equipment is protected on conditioned power for reliability. The result is a calm, elegant interior where small power is exactly where you need it, lighting flatters every surface, and connectivity simply works, delivering a luxury finish that feels effortless every day.
